I always have people come up to me and ask about the route. A good riding route is one of the keys to the success of Ride For Doug. Here's what it is....
For those looking to program their GPS for the 2010 ride, here's a link to a map: www.tinyurl.com/rfd2010v2
Length - the ride is approximately 200km long. It takes approximately 3-4 hours to ride (including stops). Come with a full tank of gas, and you'll not need to fill up.
Stops - I'm planning 2 rest stops along the route for leg stretches and breaks. There are great times to talk bikes with other riders and meet new people. I've got a couple favorite parks with ample space for all of us in mind.
Roads - The route winds through some of the most scenic and beautiful motorcycling roads in the Langley/Abbotsford/Mission area - including Glen Valley and the Hatzic Lake area. You're going to want to keep your ride map to revisit these roads again and again. Does Stave Lake Road mean anything to you?
Pace - I call this ride "Sportbike roads, at a cruiser pace." What does this mean? It means that the Ride For Doug route is based on some of the most fun rides in the area. There's no freeway riding, and we try to avoid congested traffic roads wherever possible. The roads are curvy, (and some are downright twisty!) and the scenery is typic
al BC breathtaking. We ride the route at a comfortable pace. This is not a race, and there are no prizes for fast riding! It's the perfect sunday afternoon ride.
Signage- For 2010, we will have new and improved signage along the route. Every turn will be marked with distictive Ride For Doug signage, allowing all riders to navigate without worry. This year we will not be riding in smaller groups, but rather as one impressive show of support. The well marked route, and the map distributed to all riders will make it easy to end up at all the right places.
And of course, the end of the ride features a BBQ. This is a great time to catch up with friends new and old, and satisfy that post ride hunger. We'll have door prizes and prizes for the top fundraising riders. Take a few minutes out, and show Doug your bike. Most of all - have fun. See you there!
