The first ever Ride For Doug was held in July 2007. It was a my first introduction to holding a motorcycle charity event, and it certainly was eye opening. RFD 2007 had one simple objective - to plug into the support network of "our friends who ride". What happened was so much more.
I had expected (and planned for) about a dozen riders. 17 showed up. I hadn't really thought about raising funds. We raised over $2,000. I didn't really know what to expect emotionally. We were overwhelmed with the sense of unity among all those who came. To look back and see all those bikes riding with us, riding for Doug, was a very powerful statement.
