Sam's Corner

Hi, I'm Samantha

Samantha is Doug's big sister.  As you can imagine, Muscular Dystrophy effects her life too.  This corner of the website is dedicated to her, and her thoughts on motorcycles, brothers, and life.  She will be submitting articles periodically through the run up to the ride.  Check back regularly to see what she has to say.

Do I sometimes feel left out?

I feel left out because sometimes Doug gets extra attention from things like having help with things like his medic alert bracelet and his splints.  Sometimes he doesn't have to do things because his muscles aren't strong (like run the 200m race at school).    Sometimes he gets to watch extra videos.  He gets to play extra games because they're learning games, and I don't want to because they are too easy for me.

Sometimes I get to be in the newspaper with him, and ride a motorcycle with him though.  If Doug wasn't born there would be no Ride For Doug for me to ride in.  Sometimes I'm left out, but other times I'm lucky because I get to do some of Doug's extra games and stuff.

What does it feel like to write Sam's Corner?

It feels good to write Sam's Corner because it's good to let people know what I'm thinking about.  Sometimes I'm nervous when I know lots of people are reading Sam's Corner.  This is even harder than giving a speech - and that's hard too!

What are the top 7 reasons to come to Ride For Doug?

Here are some reasons I think you should come to the ride:

  1. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has no cure
  2. It is fun to ride on a motorcycle
  3. The food is good
  4. You can meet new friends
  5. You can see my cute pink helmet
  6. You'll see all different kinds of motorcycles
  7. There's prizes to be given out

It's going to be really fun coming to the ride again.

How does it effect me?

It effects me because it's hard to race him fairly.  It's also hard because when I try to play tag with Doug, he's always "it".  It's only a little fun being the only fast one in the house.

Why is it important to Ride For Doug

It's important to Ride For Doug because Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has no cure.  it's also fun to go on the ride too!  It's hard work to fundraise, but it's worth it.

Why I like riding a motorcycle

I like riding a motorcycle because we go really fast, and we go down big hills.  We go down twisty roads and sharp corners too!  It's also super fun on the highway!
