Registration Open - Ride For Doug 2026 - NEW TIME and FORMAT
What is the backstory of that Silver Dodge Charger RT that shows up every Friday Night Street Legals?
This is the story about the Race WIth Doug Team. Racing is always a great reason to get together and have some fun. Why don't you join us one week? It's $10 to be a spectator - $50 if you want to run your car with the big boys.
And the number? Our first year we raced under the number 805 DOM. Once we started having multiple drivers we added the driver's first initial. 805C is Cam driving, and 805L if Liam is driving.

Doug is also a car guy. So when the Motor Vehicle Branch opened at 9am on his 16th birthday - he was in line at the front door - ready to write his L. Because he has a disablity, he had to go through the ICBC medical review before he was allowed to use that L. You need the L to start the medical review process. It took a full year of wait lists and appointments at GF Strong before he recieved the verdict. According to their test results, his muscle weakness and reaction time combined to make him ineligible.
You can imagine how this felt. Doug had been looking forward to driving a series of beater cars, fixing them up and flipping them. Something new and interesting in his driveway.
That didn't stop him. He bought his first car - a 2007 Honda Fit, and worked on it with some friends to flip it. Unfortunately, it was an Ontario car, and the rust was everywhere. They cracked the block trying to remove a seized starter. Goodbye Honda Fit. Sold it for scrap.
The next plan was to join highschool friends off roading. He would need a volunteer driver, and his goal was to explore the backcountry of BC and go 4x4ing with his buddies. He bought a 2002 Dodge Dakota. His first V8. This one started and ran as it was, so he made a few lighting upgrades and was ready to go. Unfortunately, the rough surfaces of the offroad are really hard on his core - and he wasn't able to comfortably tackle any challenging terrain. So the truck had to go.
He then learned that Mission Raceway held drag races many Friday Nights. Quarter mile runs are on a very smooth surface - without any hard turns. He started to explore that. Recognizing that Friday Night Street Legals only lets a car have a passenger if the car is slower than 14.0 seconds he started his search for some wheels.
He ended up purchasing a 2006 Dodge Charger RT. This is what he takes to Misson - and either his dad Cam or one of his Respite team do the driving. Over the past 4 years he has been slowly upgrading the car and chipped away at the time. He started with runs in the mid/high 15 second mark, and has whittled that down to 14.5 seconds this year. (Expand the bottom of this page to see his mod list.) We started the 2026 season with new PBs on each of the first 2 nights, and Doug has his eye on that 14.0.
And when he hits 14.0? Then it's time to sell the car and buy something else that's a 15 second car and see what he can do with it.
Here's a copy of our fastest time. 14.5784 @ 93.07 MPH
Car was purchased with a cat back exhaust, and a K&N "cold air" intake. It was on all season tires. It overheated when it was driven below 50km/h.
Initial Mod list
New radiator fan and housing (stock)
Deep cleaning of a K&N filter that was caked in bugs
Alloy Wheels from a 2009 Charger Superbee
This got the car to stop overheating, and opened up a bit of breathing. We were very limited by traction though, so Doug started saving for some new tires.
Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 in a 275/40R20
This helped us immensely with launch.
As part of a Sunshine Wish package Doug was given some kit to make racing better.
This included:
Power wheelchair that can fold up and fit completely in his Charger's Trunk - otherwise he was stuck in a manual wheelchair
HP Tuners MPVI3 - this lets Doug log the performance of sensors while running AND modify the programming of the car's brain
We got a remote tune from HP Tuner's online forum. Thank you WATTUNED!
Added a 180 degree thermostat
Found that we were limited because of Intake Temps being too high both at the start of the run and all the way down the track.
built a custom intake to put largest filter we could get our hands on down low and out of the engine compartment (Thank you Frank at Double Cheeseburger Racing)
